It can be hard to take breaks from doing in life and orient ourselves to being in life, pausing from our too-long to-do list and attuning to the flow of everything already occurring around and through us. Even when we make space to be and not do we can feel pressure to get back to doing. What have you learned that works for you in balancing both the being in and the doing of life?
Making new friends can be a lot of work. It can bring up a range of feelings and anxieties. At the same time, making new friends and deepening different kinds of connections can widen and strengthen our experience of being human in myriad ways. What have you done this week to cultivate new friendship?
When we try hard to forgive and sense that we just aren't there yet we can experience another kind of sadness, a grief in not getting the relief we crave from our own heartache. In response, we may need more self-compassion than ever. How do you double down on self-compassion when you need it the most?
We can be aversive to taking responsibility for our impact in a punitive culture where punishment and ostracism are institutionalized and rampant, and yet we may notice that when we do take responsibility for our part unimagined pathways to interpersonal healing and connection open up. What surprising connections have shown up when you took responsibility for your part?
Awe and curiosity sometimes interrupt the work of pursuing knowledge and skills. Yet, both adventure and learning are integral parts of mastery. How do you find balance in exploration and practice?
Getting comfortable in our own style can be a lifelong journey through a judging, harsh, and oppressive world. At the same time, our unique style is both a personal and political practice in wellbeing. What do you love to wear?
Sleep is so important. And we all have things about sleep that are different from each other and that make sleeping arrangements work as best as possible. What is your favorite sleep aid?
Sometimes context and desire don't line up. We may be tired when life requires energy. We may be ready before it's go time. How do you bring yourself into more alignment at moments when external context and internal desire are out of pace?
It's ok when expressing delight to also receive delight. Feeling wonderment is not a zero sum game, and both/and thinking lives in the multiple facets of our individual humanity, as well as in the shared nature of being in the world together. When have you felt joy while expressing genuine respect for something or someone else?
Practicing both/and thinking and both/and feeling may only get us so far in helping us open our hearts to life's complexities. We may also need to engage with both/and sensing to uncover deeper truths and strengths within us. What are two seemingly contradictory sensations that are co-occurring in your body right now?
