Really any activity can potentially be overdone, or done to the point of side effects that are perhaps less than optimal. In these moments, practicing self-understanding that is a mix of both wishes for our joy to continue and wishes for our suffering to lessen is probably a lifelong effort and art. And yet this practice may be at the root of our capacity to have real compassion and compersion for others, as well.
