Mudita is among the oldest known words for the feeling of universal joy, or the state in which we experience joy for all beings. Mudita prayers or mantras are practices for cultivating this feeling and way of being. A common phrasing might be something like, "May all beings be happy," or "May I feel joy, may you feel joy, may joy grow and extend all around us." Share your own mudita prayer for today. The heart farther from the tree has a smaller, bright red heart between itself and the other heart. Text reads: "mudita" and below that "Finding joy in the happiness of others."] #MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2021. On this day 2020. On this day 2019. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
