Scientific evidence suggests that we can have a meaningful influence over the expression of each other's genes. When we share positive experiences and emotions, we can communally increase our capacities for more of these experiences to flow through and between us. In an updated definition of the mind, more than one brain in relationship, this flow of positive experience at a neurobiological level may start to look and feel a lot like compersion. What questions do you have about the relationship between compersion and neuroscience? [image description: Two smiling hearts face each other. A series of swirls emanates from each heart and connects in with the other. Text reads: "positive interpersonal neurobiology" and at the bottom, "Positive mind state created by two brains in relationship."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 5/17 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
