Laughter can come through in life for a wide range of reasons. Laughing may be connected to a number of different emotions, joy, sadness, fear, and anger. It may be a reaction or a response to something or someone, laughing at a joke, at incomprehensible beauty, or in the face of a difficult task. Or, it may be directed from an internal process outward toward someone or something concrete or metaphysical, laughing at the absurdity of existence or at a sudden awareness of our minuscule scale in the universe. We may even use laughter to mock something we dislike. One way or another, we may all be exposed to different kinds of laughter over a lifetime, and we may get to and need to develop a unique relationship to the different ways that laughter shows up in our lives. What's one way that you relate to the sound of laughter?
