In the middle of some situations we can suddenly find ourselves at a loss for words, or needing a break from talking, or by near necessity simply contemplating the situation in quiet so as to know what to do next. In these situations, we may feel or experience what is happening as unintelligible or indescribable, without clarity, without meaning, and without a story that has a perceptible beginning and ending. We may find our heart leading us forward, or our body wisdom may drive our decisions. Indeed, some situations are so extreme or absurd that words just fail us. In these moments, we may, in fact, need the wisdom, power, rootedness, and witness of our heart brain and gut brain more than ever. What's a situation you've experienced that was difficult to explain with words? MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2019. On this day 2018. Celebrating two years of daily cartoons. [image description: A heart hangs limply in the wide open sky by just its hands, which are clenched around a horizontal pole or wire that stretches across the entire frame. The heart looks downward with a slight frown.]

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
