Someone challenged me while I was at Burning Man to think about the camp that I would create and the offering that camp would make to Black Rock City. Over my four trips to Burning Man, I have struggled a lot to survive in the desert and not turn into a jerk to people around me or to myself. I realize that my struggle has been in large part made that much harder by the shame I have felt for having a hard time in the first place, or for not having everything all figured out already about self-care. Shame is such a pervasive experience and still one that people collectively often don't have a lot of capacity or skill at acknowledging or supporting. Through classes, group art space and projects, and a chill Your-Shame-Is-Welcome-Here lounge that serves tea and psychology facts about shame, Camp Should (NOT) Have Already Mastered Everything would support people to recognize, allow, investigate, and nurture their experiences of shame together, bringing more awareness to this part of how we get along as a human community in relationship with BRC, the Earth, and all beings. What is something you've learned about shame that you want others to know? [image description: A heart, appearing distraught with stress sweat at its forehead, walks up to a large mylar dome. The dome has a sign that reads, "Camp Should Have Already Mastered Everything," and in red ink the word "NOT" is added after the word "Should."]
