Perhaps resonating around joy inside ourselves and with others only works when we can toggle between the constant and undulating flow of joy and sorrow that makes up all of life. We may need to flex our compassion muscle in concert with our compersion muscle and practice with a universal wish for more joy as well as a universal wish for less suffering. And sometimes we may need to really uplift our suffering in order to find the path to joy. Share a wish for the lessening of suffering during these times.

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion. The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond.

[image description: Two hearts stand facing each other with a line with arrows at each end labeled "6 ft." running along the ground between their feet. The heart on the left says, "This is really hard." Then repeats, "REALLY HARD." And finally, says, "I'm glad we're going through it together." The hashtag "#QuarantineCompersion" appears at the border.]
