If the definition of unique is "one of a kind," the phrase "very unique" may be grammatically incoherent. In other words, we might wonder how one's day could be "very one of a kind." But the word unique has also come to mean unusual: "That's a unique hat." It's perhaps not exactly one of a kind, because it's still a hat and there are plenty of hats in the world. Similarly, people are beautiful both for being singular creatures and for being average humans but in idiosyncratic ways. Being unique — like none other — is beautiful. But being very unique — unusual — is also beautiful. In what ways are you like no one else? In what ways are you like others, but jazzier?
