Sometimes hiding from the world, from others, and even from ourselves is exactly what we want and need. Life can be scary in so many different ways. And when we hide parts of ourselves in therapy, it may be helpful to remember that therapy is also part of life and there's nothing wrong with protecting ourselves wherever we go in the world. Practicing with what's scary, with coming out at our own pace, if ever, and with self-protection, including in therapy, are very personal, sovereign endeavors, and at the same time can be profound processes and adventures that we engage in socially as well.
