Asking for the kind of care we need can be difficult for many reasons. We may not know what we need or what will work well for us, as we may never have studied this to better understand ourselves and to better communicate about how we like to receive care. We may also be asking for something that won't be available and our request may be subject to punishment in a world that is often unkind and even harsh to vulnerability and desire. What has helped you learn about and ask for the care you need and want? [image description: A heart with one wild braid of hair and tears running down its cheeks says to another heart, "Hold me." The other heart looks back with a slightly open mouth, one eyebrow scrunched down, and the other eyebrow raised.] #MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2020. On this day 2019. On this day 2018. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
