We can, in fact, make the choice again and again to step back into what Carl Rogers called unconditional positive regard with each other. In this field beyond right-doing and wrong-doing, as Rumi describes it, we can experience the wholeness of each other's humanity, fallibility, and positive intentions, and we can work together here to find creative pathways back to more shared trust. How do people in your communities practice coming back together in landscapes of non-judgment? [image description: Two hearts are standing in a circle labeled, "unconditional positive regard." One heart smiles at the other heart who looks down at the circle with a quizzical facial expression. Text reads: "We return to kindness."] #MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2020. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
