In Esparanto, compersion is formed by attaching the prefix that signifies an opposite, mal, to the word ĵaluzo, meaning jealousy. As such, the Esparanto word for compersion, malĵaluzo, literally means "opposite jealousy." What is your definition of jealousy? And how would you describe the opposite of this definition of jealousy? [image description: Four smiling hearts appear in a row. The heart on the far left is slightly angled toward the other three hearts and has its hands on its chin in a cute pose. The other three hearts are holding hands. There are two tiny red hearts bubbling up between the three hearts. There is also a tiny red heart bubbling up from the head of the heart on the left. Text reads: "malĵaluzo" and below that, "Opposite jealousy." At the bottom text reads: "Compersion in Esparanto."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 4/2 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2018 Celebrating four years of daily cartoons!! FOUR YEARS. WOW.

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
