In Chinese, the expression 热闹 (rè nao) has a specific meaning, that a place has a bustling, lively energy to it. But it means something more than that even. When a place is rè nao it's a place that people want to be, a place that seems to encourage joy. Which perhaps invites the question: What if a place itself could feel compersion? What if a place could resonate with and have a kind of empathy for our joy? Describe a place that you've been that seemed to encourge you to feel your joy even more. [image description: Ten happy and smiling hearts float in space that is speckled with bright dots. The scene appears almost like a party. Text reads: "热闹" and "rè nao" and to the side and below, "Bustling with a shared lively and joyful energy."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 4/24 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
