The historic effects of racialized capitalism have been so deep that our basic sense of collective care today continues to be strangled at a genetic, nervous system level. For good reason, we can end up seeing competition every direction that we look. Indeed, in our current institutions there are real losers in an arms race for love and compassion. But practicing compassion and compersion may be the exact antidotes that we need most. What helps you return home to a wider definition of universal love and belonging?

Human cognition, emotion, and motor function are not computational processes. Our brains, hearts, and bodies are living, dynamic, evolving wonders. To that end, scientists have described and studied a dazzling variety of specific cognitive biases. This work helps illuminate a vast, multifaceted landscape of statistically meaningful ways that brains are ultimately not computers. At the same time, science has yet to do extensive study of emotive and motor biases that likely can also originate from the significant cluster of neurons in the heart and in the gut. Yet all told, we understand that the biopsychosocial experience of being human is fallible, predictably unpredictable, mutating, and, well, human.

Nearby another heart watches the pair with a frown and a tiny broken heart above its head. Text reads: "Zero-Sum Bias: Incorrectly perceiving the gains of some coming at the expense of others."]
