We may fear what people will think of us individually or as friends or communities, and we may have good cause to be afraid. Open hostilities to who we genuinely are, to our affinities and our choices socially, can create feelings of resistance, annoyance, or even terror in us at the thought of meeting out in public spaces. In what ways, if any, have public spaces been scary or difficult for you? [image description: Three hearts in a row hold hands. The heart in the middle has a somewhat worried facial expression and looks out at the viewer. The heart on the left has a more inquisitive facial expression and asks, "What if people see all three of us holding hands? What if they are cruel?" The heart on the right has a calmer facial expression and reassures, "We'll have each other." Text reads: "fomo — FEAR OF MEETING OUT"] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 12/9 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
