In Jewish mourning traditions, sitting shiva ends on day seven. On the eighth day of mourning, some parts of everyday life resume. When this structure is lovingly offered to the bereaved, it can help us try on new mindsets and process emotions. What traditions have helped you move through the grief of a loved one's death? [image description: A heart with a single, wild braid of hair holds a pen in one hand and inspects a drawing of a smaller heart in the other hand. Text reads: "Day 8 of Mourning," and "Start making art again."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 7/8 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
