There are a lot of conversations that we can have to make physical and emotional connection safer and more joyful. We can have sti safer sex conversations. We can have conversations about what physical intimacy will mean for us and for others, a safer emotional intimacy conversation, including what aftercare might be helpful. We can also have a kind of safer relationship conversation where we check in about the level or kind of ongoing connection we want to have together. We can even have safer power conversations in which we disclose things to each other about power dynamics that might be at play when we engage relationally. Safer power conversations may be helpful in addressing collective care in our short- and long-term intimacies by inviting shared, proactive dialogue about how we impact each other unconsciously and what to do when this happens. What do you think may be important for you or others to discuss when having a safer power conversation? [image description: Large bubble letters read: "Have SAFER POWER conversations. On the left is a heart with a facial expression of awe. On the right is a smiling heart that is gently touching the word POWER. There are many smaller hearts all around.] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 11/12 ~ on this day 2022 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating five years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
