It's also important that we collectively tell ourselves stories about the human experience that are not shaming. Instead, we need to tell stories that are uplifting and inclusive of the range of challenges we face as human beings. This simple act of normalizing our multifaceted human experiences can help protect against suicidality across groups. The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
