We may experience grief in significantly challenging, painful, and chaotic ways when someone we love, or anyone, dies from suicide. For a range of reasons the loss may create a range of lasting traumatic effects, such as recurring images of past events, flashback episodes, heightened depression and anxiety, negative changes in thinking and mood, heightened reactivity, avoiding reminders of the loss, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, and numbing behaviors. It is possible to get targeted help sorting and healing the specific ways that suicide loss can be complex and traumatic. What, if any, resources could you recommend that are targeted to support people experiencing bereavement from suicide? ~ Suicide LifeLine dial or text 988 or dial 1.800.273.8255 [image description: A heart looks downward with a frown and furrowed brow. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
