Over the course of a lifetime, a person has to rely on themselves for a lot. Whether we're relying on ourselves to eat, sleep, work, make friends, have fun, take space from others, find connection with others, feel a sense of meaning and purpose, provide ourselves with inner peace and self-love, or many, many other social, biological, and emotional requirements that all human beings have in various amounts and formats in order to survive and thrive as humans — we all do a lot to take care of ourselves. For some, feeling a sense of personal reliability may be a given, which can create a burdensome belief that we are the only person we can rely on, that we are not just self-reliant, but apart, alone, and abandoned. For others who may rarely feel capable of self-care, self-reliability may seem more elusive or impossible. In the end, believing in our own reliability may be a practice and an art, while also a key ingredient to self-trust. What helps you know that you can reasonably rely on yourself? [image description: A smiling heart stands in the grass under a starry sky and looks up at a crescent moon. The heart has the thought, "Bedtime." Text reads: "My personal RELIABILITY is necessary in my life."] #MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2020. On this day 2019. Celebrating two years of daily cartoons.

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
