Memory is birthplace of gray areas. We don't initially perceive the world the same way, and then on top of that we can never go back and relive what has happened to check perceptions. Yet, our inability to hold memory in some perfect way should not be an excuse to not treat what has happened as knowable and seeable and a space to which we need to be accountable to each other. What helps you practice being accountable in the face of memory's simultaneous truths and inaccuracies? [image description: Two hearts are facing each other. The heart on the left has a somewhat worried facial expression and asks, "Where were we when we first met?" The other heart holds its head with one hand and its chin with the other hand and returns a facial expression of uncertainty. Text reads: "Memory."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 11/25 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
