I'm so lucky that this truly astounding human came into my life with such ease and love, such immediate comfort. The word comfort in Latin means with (com) strength (fort, like fortitude). And I want the whole world to know how strong and wonderful this person is and to get to feel her strength with her. Joy is carving out time to do yoga and physical exercise lately. She brings people together for events and pours love and attention into making her friends feel special. At her work, Joy tries to really understand where pregnant people are coming from with their fears and anxieties with no judgment, while encouraging her co-workers to do the same. It’s complex and rewarding. | She tells me: "I'm finding when you really listen to someone even when what they are asking you makes no sense, you can sometimes touch upon what they are needing or wanting. Even if they don’t know how to ask for it or are unaware of what is happening within themselves. It’s super rewarding and sometimes heartbreaking, but it’s my exploration with taking care of the people I work with. And it’s really cool that my boss is seeing this compassion and asking me to make the difficult phone calls or to try and help upset patients. And I’m happy to try and help. It often works; sometimes it doesn’t, and I’m learning and that’s great for me." What helps you bring renewed or deeper compassion to your workplaces? |
Today's cartoon is the glorious reimagining of a drawing I didn't know what to do with until one of my Patreon supporters added just the magic it needed to bring this image back from the trash pile. |
